Live Maine Lobsters:
This species is commonly called the Maine American lobster, but is also known as the Boston Lobster. The Maine lobster is found inshore in summer and in deeper waters in winter, especially along the New England coast. Maine is the largest state in New England. It is larger than all other New England states combined. More importantly, because of its glacial past, its coastline is 5,633 kilometers long longer than the rest of the American eastern seaboard. It is because of this unique geography that the Maine or Boston lobster abounds. There are many aspects differentiating the Maine lobster from other lobsters found elsewhere in the world. Perhaps the most important is taste. The cold and deep waters off the coast of Maine provide the tastiest and most succulent lobsters. Particularly, the lobsters harvested following their molting possess a sweetness experienced by no other crustacean. Equally important is water salinity. Within the Gulf of Maine, ocean salinity varies. Maine waters are different from Massachusetts or Canadian waters, and that is another reason why the Maine lobster is the most universally sought after among all lobsters.
